The late Harold Washington welcomed more than 800 television pioneers to the MBC gala "YOU CAN COME HOME AGAIN" at River City in October of 1986. Eight months later the Mayor was on hand again to officially open the MBC.

The original home of the Museum of Broadcast Communications in the River City complex in the South Loop. The MBC opened on June 13, 1987.

On June 12, 1987 Radio Hall of Famer Chuck Schaden (L) was the first voice heard from the Museum. The broadcast, featuring the late Don McNeill (R), was carried "live" on WBBM Newsradio 780.

"Mr. Television" Milton Berle was one of the first major television stars to visit the Museum after its River City opening in 1987.

Tom Snyder (R) being briefed before his nationally syndicated ABC radio program in 1988 by Bruce DuMont. Snyder originated his program from the Museum for an entire week.

Jim Lounsbury, former host of "Bandstand Matinee" on WGN brought the sounds of rock n roll to the Museum in 1988. Lounsbury returned for the 10th Anniversary of the MBC in 1997.

The MBC created the "Evening with" series to bring television icons together, including film critics Gene Siskel (L) and Roger Ebert (R) on April 15, 1993.
